The Hybrid PM_BA

The market has recognized that PM’s do BA work and vice versa; the hybrid BA/PM. This realization has led to an attempt to create a new role that builds on both Business Analysis and Project Management, but with a more strategic function. Names include BRM (business relationship manager), BPM (business project manager), BPE (Business project engineer), Strategic Initiatives Engineer, Product manager, etc.

The BPMs mingle with and advise executives. They can lead strategic initiatives from beginning to end. They are experts in Project Management, Business Analysis and Requirements Engineering.

This new role creates opportunities for PMO directors, senior project managers, and seasoned professionals. To that end, PMI is supporting this effort by creating a roadmap for professionals in these disciplines.

This roadmap includes 4 key certifications:

1. PMP, project management professional

2. PBA, Requirements and Business Analysis professional

3. ACP, Agile certification

4. PgMP, program management certification

Certification in any of these 3 plus 15 years of experience leads to the designation Strategic Project Engineer. For more information on how the South Florida Chapter of PMI can help you attain this designation, please email: education@southfloridapmi.org
